Abstract

Practical training in aircraft maintenance at vocational high schools plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ understanding of complex procedures and hands-on experience. However, limitations such as a lack of expensive training equipment and the constraints of textbook-based materials hinder effective learning. This study aims to address these challenges by developing a Unity-based 3D simulation learning tool focused on the “Disassembling a Hydraulic Pump” unit from the NCS curriculum. The learning tool allows students to explore a virtual environment in first-person view, including classrooms and a hangar, where they can study helicopter structures, learn component names, observe animated work procedures, and perform simulated maintenance tasks. Designed with an emphasis on visual clarity and user-friendly interaction, the content operates on standard PC systems without requiring high-end or VR equipment. After implementation in a pilot class with aircraft maintenance students and teachers, a survey was conducted to evaluate usability, educational applicability, and perceived learning effects. The results indicated high satisfaction among both students and instructors, confirming the tool’s effectiveness in supplementing traditional educational materials. This study suggests that Unity-based 3D simulations can serve as an innovative alternative for practical education in vocational schools and proposes their potential expansion to other maintenance modules.
